Origin: Saint-Medard-en-Jalles Maison de la Sabliere 8 Rue Charles Peguy
With our host, Brigitte, as we begin the day's ride.
Destination: Lacanau-Ocean, Chez Augustin 14 Rue De L'atlantique
Straight--almost--, flat as the rail line it was; the ride was on perfect pavement through plantation forestry. More pleasant than that description sounds. We stopped at a town park to give our chain and sprockets some lubrication, and the bikes responded with quiet gratitude. At town of Saumos we saw a impromptu sign for what turned out to be a food truck. We turned right and enjoyed good sandwiches and ice cream bars. Lunch included conversation with two young men cyclists who work with Bordeaux Bike/Boat and were headed to Bordeaux after a week's break at the lake that sits behind the dunes north of Lacanau.

This "piste cyclable" seems to be a huge success. Well used for its whole distance by mostly serious cyclists, it becomes a thoroughfare for people of all ages, sizes, and abilities as we enter Lacanau and Lacanau Ocean. The ride to our lodging was 50k. It is right next to the bike trail and provides a large patio area for eating, socializing, and with hot tub, sauna and friendly owners, Jean Luis and Julie. We added another 7k going to and from the busy beachfront for an early dinner and to celebrate our arrival at the other "sea".
Now, we need to get back to Toulouse to close the chain in our sea-to-sea canal trip.
