Turin to Cavour. 10 cyclists. Small country roads, kms of corn fields and fruit trees, numerous churches and cemeteries, mostly flat, hot temps, several wrong turns.

Off we ten went by 9:30 and soon discovered the challenges of route-finding to transition to less traveled roads--and the rewards of a mountain-surrounded valley landscape with its mix of annual crops, tree crops, and animal husbandry.

It was a warm day, so the 69k and route finding and landscapes were both pleasant and challenging enough for our first day on the road: arriving at our funky B&B and next-door restaurant. We two did not venture beyond, but those who walked to the center came upon a time-consuming trial run from the church up the steep mini-mountain that is the town's backdrop. The winner made it up in less than 10 minutes.
