[Italy, Day 3] Thursday, July 5, (28k)

Origin: Cavour, La Vie B&B
Destination: Saluzzo, Poggio Radicati Hotel de Charme

Karlyn's summary:
Great day with fruit orchards, farm animals, quiet country roads along foothills of the Alps, medieval castles and churches, fabulous fresh salads for lunch, more gelato, final grueling uphill climb to hotel, evening stroll through Saluzzo old town alleys and streets. Finishing the day with the laundry drying challenge.

Short, pleasant day of family riding on quiet roads by fruit orchards (first time ever to see kiwi growing), fields of corn, grains with distant views of the alps. We forded a river at one point and sometimes shared the road with farm equipment.

Found the perfect lunch spot in the medieval center of Saluzzo, at La Quatro Stagioni, featuring a beautiful buffet of salads, meats and veggies. We were not disappointed by the gelato at La Roman, the recommended spot on the plaza. After so much riding on flat roads, the climb up the hill to our lovely hotel was challenging and hot, but the view of the valley and town below was worth it. A late afternoon visit to Castello della Manta allowed us to see late Gothic frescoes from around 1420 depicting the life of the aristocrats and common folk from that era.
