Origin: Saluzzo, Poggio Radicati Hotel de Charme
On this 65 km day, the heat was intense but moving into the wine growing region of the Piemonte kept all moving up the hills and we soon saw the hillside towns so characteristic of this region. The last steep climb into Montfort d'Alba required a longer rest stop for Marney, Bob and Kristin--depleted of energy.
Gazing at the amazing view, we recovered enough to climb the remaining inclines to Monforte d'Alba. It was all worth all the sweat...

Vikram and Korcho hauled our gear up the steep 15-20 per cent cobblestone street to the hotel. Grandkids cooled off quickly in the small pool there. After pizza for all in the plaza, we cheered with others as Belgium won their quarterfinal in the World Cup tournament. We slept so well that night to awaken early and look out on that stunning view.
In Langhe wine region (65 km) - Long, hot day starting with flat farmland and ending with multiple steep ascents into the picturesque wine region. Hot afternoon temps made the climbs especially "fun". But the views rewarded us at every corner, and we all made it!

...the sweeping view from our hotel window of vineyards and the distant small towns was gorgeous.
