It did give us time to start to reflect on our 17 days in northern Spain. In no particular order:
....We were surprised at how our experience intersected with the "Camino" not just in a few places but everywhere we went.
....Oh, how comfortable it is to be able to use our second language--it adds to the experience in subtle as well as obvious ways.
....We could see that Spain is recovering but not yet fully from the impacts of the great recession that began about 10 years ago. It felt good to contribute our tourism dollars.
....The infra structure and its maintenance impressed us everwhere-- sophisticated transit systems and the old-slow FEVE train; beautiful and convenient pedestrian places and ways; attention to detail, cleanliness, aesthetics; parks and plantings; signage.
....Courtesy and helpfulness--from those who were supposed to be so and from those who just happened to be there when we were clueless.
