[ Spain Days 14-15 ] Monday, June, 25, Santiago de Compostela to León, Province of Leon, Spain :: June 26 in Leon
Origin: Hotel Costa Vella Rua da Porta de Pena 17, Santiago de Compostela
Destination: Hostal Albany, La Paloma 13, León

..
Only the late train had seats, but the León streets were lit and the bars were full when we arrived at 1:30 AM at our hostal, located right in front of the illuminated Santa Maria Cathedral.
..
..
In the morning, the cathedral plaza was filled the Camino walkers and cyclists. Leoreta from northern Italy was resting a sore foot for a couple of days. She and Michele, also from Italy told us about two groups of walkers that had inspired them: a German family with 4 young children (one a 2 month old when they left Hamburg) and two men in their mid 70s, one blind. The stamps in their camino passports told the story of their miles and villages passed through. We even saw later from the train to San Sebastián one of the camino hostals, next to the grain elevator in a tiny town, miles from anywhere.
..
At breakfast the next day we met Miyoko and Monoru, a retired couple from Tokyo. For the past 5 years they had come to do a part of the Camino, but with Monroe's knee problems, they were not sure how much further they could
.
We toured, with audio phones, León's towering gothic Cathedral of Santa Maria, built in the mid 13th century in just 50 years. The stain glass windows are spectacularly beautiful.

An early evening dramatic thunderstorm postponed temporarily our exploration of the many plazas. We enjoyed a late dinner in a cozy restaurant in Plaza de Santa Maria del Camino.

..
..
We enjoyed a slow walk to the bus along the shady, paved river path. On the way, Bob "consulted" with Gaudi in front of one of the architect's first buildings.
